Add a page
Create a new page from a template, copy an existing page, change a page's web address, or delete a page.
Add a page for each service, a seasonal offer, a privacy policy or anything else. Every new page starts from a template, so it looks right from the start.
Add a new page
- Click Pages in the left menu.
- Click New page at the top right. The Add a page window opens.
- Type a Page name, like "Fall Cleanup Special".
- Check the Web address. It fills in from the name. Change it if you'd like something shorter.
- Under Start from a template, click the one closest to what you need.
- Leave Add to the site menu checked so visitors can find the page. Uncheck it for pages like a private offer.
- Click Create page.
The new page opens, ready to edit. Replace the sample words and photos with your own. See Edit text and photos.
Which template to pick
- Service page: one service in depth, with what's included, how it works, photos and questions.
- About: your story, a few quick facts and reviews.
- Pricing or menu: a price list or food menu, with questions.
- Contact: a contact form plus your hours, address and map.
- Promotion: a focused page for a seasonal offer, event or campaign.
- Team: photos and short bios of your people.
- Privacy policy: a plain-language policy to edit. Recommended if you have a contact form.
- Town page: your work in one town or neighborhood. To make several at once, see Make pages for the towns you serve.
- Donate: giving amounts that link to your own donation page on Zeffy, Givebutter, Stripe or Square, with questions about giving. See Take payments.
- Basic page: a title and text. Good for policies, careers or anything simple.
A template is just a starting point. You can add, move, hide or remove sections afterward.
Copy an existing page
Copying is the quickest way to make a second service page.
- Open the page you want to copy.
- Click the Page settings tab.
- Under Duplicate page, click the Duplicate button. It shows the page's name, like Duplicate “Services”.
The copy ends in "(copy)" and opens on its Page settings tab so you can rename it. Copies aren't added to the menu. See Change your menu and footer links.
Make pages for the towns you serve
A page for each town you work in helps you show up when people search for your work there, like "landscaping in Weaverville".
- Click Pages in the left menu.
- Click Town pages at the top right.
- Check What do people search for? It's used in each page's title and web address, like "landscaping in Weaverville". Type what your customers would type, such as "roofing" or "dog grooming".
- Under Towns, check the towns you want pages for. The list comes from Service area in Business info and from any "Towns we serve" lists on your pages. Towns that already have a page aren't listed. To add one, type it in Another town or neighborhood and click Add.
- Leave Write the local paragraph for me with AI checked to get a first draft of each town's local paragraph.
- Click Make pages. Writing the paragraphs takes about a minute.
Each page gets the town in its heading, title and search settings, your services, and your projects in that town. Any "Towns we serve" list that names the town now links to its page.
Read each page before you publish. The AI writes in general terms and doesn't make up facts, but you know your towns. Change anything that isn't right, and add a detail only a local would know. It's what makes these pages useful. If you write the paragraphs yourself, the site check reminds you about any page you haven't finished.
Town pages aren't added to your menu. Visitors find them from your "Towns we serve" list, and Google finds them on its own.
Rename a page or change its web address
- Open the page and click the Page settings tab.
- Change the Page name. This is the name you see in the editor, and it's used as the page's search title until you set one.
- To change the Web address, type the new one and press Enter or click outside the box.
Web addresses use lowercase letters, numbers and dashes. Spaces turn into dashes for you. Each page needs its own address.
Your menu updates to the new address automatically. Buttons inside your pages and footer links don't, so check any that point to this page.
If the page is already live, people and Google may have the old address saved. Add a redirect from the old address to the new one. See Redirects.
Your home page always lives at your main web address, so it has no web address to change.
Delete a page
- Open the page and click the Page settings tab.
- Under Delete page, click the Delete button. It shows the page's name, like Delete “Services”.
- Click Delete page to confirm, or Keep it to back out.
The page and its menu link are removed from your draft. Check buttons and footer links that pointed to it.
Until you publish, Discard in the top bar brings it back, but it also throws away all your other unpublished changes. After you publish, you can restore an earlier version of your site.
You can't delete your home page.
Tips
- On the Pages screen, a Not in menu label marks pages visitors can't reach from your menu.
- The small dot and score next to each page, like SEO 5/8, show how ready it is for Google. See Search and sharing.
- Pages are listed with your home page first, then A to Z. The order visitors see is set in Menu.
Still stuck?
Try it on the live demo first; nothing you do there is saved. If you’d rather have a person do it, ask for a work request from your dashboard. You’ll get a quote before any work starts.
